Artist Residency in Los Angeles
Latitude for Art is a non-profit founded by artist Martin Cox and long-time Echo Park local Thomas DeBoe. We’re based in a 100-year-old apartment building overlooking Echo Park Lake, where artists live and work among a close-knit, creative community.
Our mission is to nurture creativity and connection—using our lush garden and vibrant urban neighborhood as spaces where artists, neighbors, and visitors can come together. Through residencies and long-term housing projects for artists and seniors, we aim to keep creativity woven into the fabric of everyday life.
We welcome painters, photographers, writers, illustrators, and conceptual artists from Los Angeles, across the country, and abroad. Visiting artists often share their work through community events in the garden, including:
Drawing in the Garden – where artists and non-artists gather to draw together
Artist in the Garden – informal talks and presentations by visiting artists
Plus fundraisers, discussions, and creative gatherings that bring people together
Our residencies are free for selected artists, funded by Latitude for Art. Applications are reviewed by a committee of board members and local residents. We especially encourage projects that explore Echo Park, our neighborhood, or the stories and people who make this place special. We also prioritize artists whose lives or work have been affected by the LA fires.
